Well, May has come and gone, and so almost is the Rotary year of Be A Gift To The World, and how you have shown your gifts, in talents, accomplishments, as well as financial!
Many great fundraising events are being held, as we progress from the snow(!) of Mid-May to the almost 90 degrees to celebrate Memorial Day with family and friends. It was also a time to remember our Veterans, and the Parade of Flags throughout communities everywhere in the District shows how much they all mean to our Rotarians. Thanks to all who participate in these projects, including the Interactors, Scouts, and Friends of Rotary.
PLEASE READ the results of the Council On Legislation. There are several important changes noted, designed to keep our organization strong and growing.
Thanks to PDGs Dennis Huffman and Bob Pattison for attending, and bringing the good news back to us.
Many exciting changes will be coming to all the clubs, as the new slate of officers prepares for the new Rotary Year, and a seasoned group of officers from this year will be available to help with the transitions, and to assist with a strong kickoff. Thanks to all the current officers, and welcome to the new ones, who will be led by the always fantastic Sieg Warren!
And, don't forget, Outgoing officers, the District will always need your experience. We always need talent on the committees who do such a fabulous job. Please let Sieg know where you'll want to serve.
As June approaches, more than a dozen Rotarians will be returning from the Seoul Convention, with lots of stories and pictures to share with us, as well as new messages of what's happening in Rotary around the World. I can't wait to hear about it!
We've had a bang up year in Foundation, as Dr. Pete gets ready to let the Committee know about the Global and District grants to be available for more great works in '16-'17. I'm sure we'll be hearing more great stories from Tim and Anna on how you'll be using the funds.
And, it's time for all to be getting ready for the 100th Anniversary Celebration in honor of Arch Klumph and the Foundation in Cleveland. It's going to be a One of a Kind time, and in our backyard!
We'll also be getting to hear more about 'Pegasus'....stay tuned.
And, for me, one more great month to celebrate all your accomplishments with Joan and I. We've enjoyed all the hospitality, fun and friendship. Thanks!
Rotarians through the years have provided untold wealth to the world in the form of physical, mental and spiritual support for those who are less fortunate. Rotary has also built up communities with their hard work, diligence and most importunately their smiles. All of these accomplishments aside, one of the most important gifts to the world is the support of the world’s youth. Rotarians have sent student ambassadors to other countries and received foreign students into their homes. Through this free interchange of global ideas the students, the host families and the host communities worldwide receive the best gift that any human can hope for. That is the gift of understanding.
The Rotary Club of Bolivar Zoar wishes to embrace and celebrate this gift during this year’s district conference. As previously noted, Friday evening celebrates Tuscarawas County. Saturday Celebrates the World!
Saturday will focus on youth and adult cultural exchanges that will help us understand the differences in our local communities and also the differences between countries. In addition to the Rotary International speaker there will be youth focused events. Out keynote speaker is a young entrepreneur who started his extremely successful business while still in school.
All of us… The Paul Harris Fellow Challenge has been a great success for our District and the Rotary Foundation. We have raised nearly $24,000 from hundreds of local Rotarians to ‘Do Good in the World’ and here at home. This money returns to our District in 3 years to provide funds for local Club projects and Global Grants.
The Paul Harris Fellow Challenge winner is DG Joe Belinsky who was very generous in his donation. He will receive 1000 Foundation Points. Congratulations Joe.
Next year, the Rotary Foundation celebrates 100 years of changing the lives for millions around the world. Past District Governor George Hays and District Governor Elect Sieglinde Warren have special plans which will be shared with you all.
At the RYLA conference, students really enjoy receiving goody bags with giveaways provided by District 6650 Rotary Clubs. Please ask your club members if they have promotional items from their businesses that they would like to contribute. Clubs may also choose to contribute something from the club itself, or money to buy items.
Remember:
These bags are for 16-17 year olds. They like pencils (especially mechanical ones), highlighters, post-it notes, key chains, note pads, playing cards, Frisbees, fast food coupons, gum, candy bars, etc.
Please NO political giveaways. We will not use them.
Please NO caffeine snacks or drinks. We cannot distribute them for safety reasons.
You will need 100 of any one item.

2016 Vintage Jackson raises funds for Jackson Township YMCA expansion project
The Rotary Club of Jackson Township has announced that the 14th Annual Vintage Jackson will be on April 28, 2016, at the Shady Hollow Country Club in Jackson Township. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
The event features unique wines from around the area, delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts. In addition to tasting favorite wines, guests are also able to bid on spectacular silent auction items.
All proceeds from this year’s event will go to the Jackson Township Paul and Carol David YMCA Expansion Project. In the final year of a three-year commitment to the YMCA Expansion Project, the funds donated by the Rotary Club of Jackson Township are furnishing a Teen Room, complete with furniture, game equipment and study tables.
“The Jackson Township YMCA, located adjacent to Jackson High School, is a mainstay in the “town square” area of our township” said Lisa Parramore, Co-Chair of the of the 2016 Vintage Jackson Event Committee. “As Rotarians, we see the value in giving teens in our community a safe and inviting place to socialize and hang out.”
Past projects include furnishing a family conference room at Pathway Caring for Children, and the Jackson Township Streetscape Project at the Wales and Fulton intersections.
Cost for the event is $60 per person. Tickets may be purchased from any Jackson Township Rotarian, or online at www.jacksonrotaryfoundation.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
For over thirty-five years, the Minerva Rotary Club has sponsored a Christmas party for special needs children in the Minerva area. This year the club served fifteen children. The evening began with a roast beef dinner followed by games, a puppet show and a carol sing with Minerva’s ‘three amigos.” Santa made a surprise visit and presented each child with a gift provided by a Minerva Rotarian.
Minerva Rotary Incredible Edible Auction
On the Friday before Christmas, Minerva Rotarians and friends gathered for breakfast and an auction of many holiday edibles. Rotarians and friends of Rotary donated 56 items which were auctioned by Minerva Rotarian and auctioneer, Rod Dimmerling. The club raised $4,700 for its service projects. A good time was enjoyed by all.
"One way the Orrville Rotary Club works to help out in the community is by volunteering during the holiday season with our local Salvation Army ringing bells for their Red Kettle Campaign. It is not only for a good cause, but is actually a lot of fun especially when you pair up with a fellow Rotarian!"
The Rotary Club of Salem was named Organization of the year by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and received a certificate of commendation from the Secretary of State.

Annually for the past 14 years The Rotary Club of Polokwane, District 9400, South Africa has been organizing safaris to raise funds for deserving charities. The attached letter and flyer provide information.
Although we mostly rely on word of mouth from past safari participants to market our safaris we do still have places open on some of our 2016 events. We are therefore seeking your much valued assistance in publicizing the safaris to Rotarians in your district.
Perhaps you would like to join us to celebrate your end of term but if not we would be most grateful If you could request your district newsletter editor to include the flyer in the next district newsletter or perhaps circulate it to clubs in your district.
Your support and assistance will be highly appreciated.
Wishing you good health and prosperity in 2016.
Rotary regards,
Charles Hardy
