Happy New Rotary year 2016-2017!

What a great year it will be!

A new year brings changes -- from your club to District officers and committees to the District newsletter.

1.  Because our clubs are involved in “serving humanity” in so many ways, we want to recognize this to the greatest extent possible.  Pictures and summaries of club activities will be listed in their own section.  Click on the club and/or project listings under the heading DISTRICT 6650 CLUBS SERVING HUMANITY.  Your achievements will be included under your club and/or project listing.

2.  Have you just had a wonderful program/presenter?  Why not share that information with the other clubs?  On the website there is a new tab directly under the banner heading entitled PROGRAM LEADS.  Click on it and you will see the beginning of what I hope will be a great resource for club program chairs.  Use this site to help all who are searching for motivational, informational, and entertaining presenters.  Please contact Lauri at info@cantonrotary.org or at 330-452-2882 with your additions.  Just a heads up:  Not just during an election year, but always, it is important to be mindful of Rotary’s apolitical status.

3.  A very special thank you to all of the clubs who are participating in our Youth Exchange program.  The students will be arriving in a few weeks.  Our thanks go out the YE committee for its leadership in this successful Rotary program.  The work of the Youth Exchange committee and host clubs is never ending.

Update on District 6650's Efforts to Help Military Veterans and Their Families

In 2012, Rotarians from throughout our district began a project to serve some of our area’s Gold Star Families. These are families who have lost a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan. The Rotary Club of Jackson Twp. took the lead, with support from 7 other clubs in Stark County. In time, clubs from Columbiana and Mahoning Counties also offered their help We arranged dinners and picnics for the families and they told us that they really appreciated being put in touch with other families that were experiencing the same type of loss and learning how to live with it. They also told us of their experiences in joining up with other Gold Star families at a horse riding center, and how being with horses had a positive effect upon their healing. In 2014, some of these families introduced us to Solid Rock Therapeutic Riding Center near Uniontown, and to Solid Rock’s work with military veterans.
