Terceira Island School Boat is a project that has spanned several Rotary years, from its initial preparation through submission and approval. The application was submitted on 27 June 2024 and approved on 24 June 2025, with funding from The Rotary Foundation being released in December 2025.
Since then, the Fortis Programme team, from Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Praia da Vitória, has worked with great commitment and dedication to carry out the restoration project that all of our clubs helped make possible, with the essential support of The Rotary Foundation.
Throughout this journey, we have had the opportunity to present the project at several forums. A particularly significant moment was its presentation to Rotary International President 2025–2026, Francesco Arezzo, and Rotary International Director Harriette Verwey, during their visit to Portugal last May.
It is with great pleasure that we share an update of all restoration work which has entered its final phase and, if everything goes according to plan, they will be able to inaugurate "our" School Boat on 26 September.
We would like to recognize the commitment and dedication of the Rotary family. Most importantly, I would like to acknowledge the trust placed in Rotary and the profound sense of responsibility with which Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Praia da Vitória embraced this project.
We will share further details of the programme for 26 September in due course. In the meantime, we wanted to let you know the date so that those wishing to attend can make the necessary arrangements.
